RESOLUTION 2000-113
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, ENDORSING A PROJECT NOMINATION FOR MILE 12
SEWARD HIGHWAY NON-MOTORIZED TRAIL SYSTEM FOR INCLU-
SION IN THE RECREATION TRAIL GRANT FOR THE YEAR 2001
WHEREAS, on June 10, 1996, the City Council approved Resolution 96-072 urging the
State of Alaska to approve the project for the development of a non-motorized sport trail system and
adjacent shooting range for summer target practice and winter biatWon races; and
WHEREAS, the Seward Nordic Ski Club (SNSC) has requested support from the City
Council by endorsing a new Project Nomination Package for inclusion in the Recreation Trail Grant
for the year 2001; and
WHEREAS, the work would consist of installing appropriate erosion control structures
and gates to protect the trail from destruction by eliminating the access to the trail by motorized
vehicles; and
WHEREAS, the project has the potential to increase winter recreation such as hosting
events like the Alaska Junior Nordic Championships or the Arctic Winter Games; and
WHEREAS, the increased trail recreation opportunities will have a positive impact on both
the mental and physical health of local residents;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Council hereby endorses this project for inclusion in the recreation Trail
Grant for the year 2001 as submitted by the Seward Nordic Ski Club:
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 9th day
of October, 2000.
