RESOLUTION 2000-121
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF mE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, SUPPORTING THE ALASKA STATE PARKS APPLICATION
FOR RECREATIONAL TRAILS GRANT FUNDS TO REPAIR AND
IMPROVE TRAILS AT CAINES HEAD STATE RECREATION AREA
WHEREAS, the Caines Head State Recreation Area, with its Public Use Cabins, trails,
campsites and historic features is a popular recreational destination for Alaskans and their visitors;
and
WHEREAS, the Caines Head State Recreation Area is an important component to the
recreational opportunities that exist in the Seward area; and
WHEREAS, the trails within the Recreation Area receive no funding for maintenance and
repairs from the state; and
WHEREAS, in order to make it safer for visitors hiking to the recreation area the trail linking
the recreation area and the City of Seward needs to be repaired and rerouted; and
WHEREAS, the Recreational Trails Grant Program has grant money available for such
repairs and improvements; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City of Seward to help keep these recreational opportunities
available to its citizens
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City of Seward hereby supports the Caines Head State Recreation Area
request for a State of Alaska Recreational Trail Grant to repair and improve the trails of the State
Recreation Area.
Section 2. This resolution takes effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 9th day
of October, 2000.
