Sponsored by: Janke CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 2000-159 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, EXTENDING A CONTRACT FOR TWO YEARS WITH MERRITT ENTERPRISES FOR CUSTODIAL SERVICES AT THE TEEN AND YOUTH CENTER, THE ALASKA VOCATIONAL TECHNICAL AND EDUCATIONAL CENTER, THE HARBOR BUILDING, THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE SITE RESTROOMS AND THE NORTHEAST LAUNCH RAMP RESTROOMS WHEREAS, the City of Seward had properly advertised a request for bids to provide custodial services at the Alaska Vocational and Technical and Educational Center (A VTEC) Student Services Center and at the Teen and Youth Center and Judy Merritt, d.b.a. Merritt Enterprises, submitted the low bid and was awarded a one year contract with the passage of Resolution No. 97-029; and WHEREAS, Merritt Enterprises has continually performed custodial duties and provided quality service for the past three years and was awarded an extension through Resolution No. 99- 071; and WHEREAS, the Harbor Department has continuously been reviewing overhead costs in order to maximize efficiency and reduce costs; and WHEREAS, the Harbor Department received a price quote from Merritt Enterprises in September of 1999 and awarded an amended custodial contract to Merritt Enterprises for work in the Harbor Building, the National Park Service site restrooms and the Northeast Launch Ramp restrooms via Resolution No. 99-137; and WHEREAS, a two year extension is recommended; and WHEREAS, the parks and recreation department and the harbor department recom- mends this contract based upon the fact that Merritt Enterprises has been flexible in providing quality service at a good price to the taxpayer. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: Section 1. It is in the public's interest to extend a contract thereby continuing to keep employee costs reduced and eliminating duplicate tasks among departments. Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to extend a contract, from January 1, 2001 until December 31, 2002, with Merritt Enterprises to provide custodial services at the Alaska Vocational and Educational Center, the Teen and Youth Center, the Harbor Building, the National Park Service site restrooms and the Northeast Launch Ramp restrooms. THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION 2000-159 Section 3. The contractor shall be paid every two weeks, as invoiced on a timely basis, as per the attached contract. Section 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council ofthe city of Seward, Alaska this lIth day of December, 2000.
