HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes2006-005 Sponsored by: Staff CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION 2006-05 A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION, RECOMMENDING CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER EXECUTE A GRANT AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE STATE OF ALASKA AND THE CITY OF SEWARD FOR THE PURPOSE OF PURCHASING AND INSTALLING WROUGHT IRON FENCING ALONG HOBEN PARK'S NORTH AND WEST BOUNDARIES WHEREAS, the State of Alaska, Historic Preservation Office has provided the City of Seward with a Historic Preservation Fund grant totaling $19,800 for the purpose of purchasing and installing wrought iron fencing; and WHEREAS, the total project cost is anticipated at $33,000 with a Federal share of $19,800 and a local match of $13,200, of which, the City's match for this project will be provided by funds already dedicated to the Hoben Park Capital Project Fund for the reconstruction; and WHEREAS, the community will benefit from the historic Hoben Park restoration project; and WHEREAS, the City of Seward is in the process of restoring the historic Hoben Park, in accordance with the historic restoration plan approved by Council Resolution 2003-85; and WHEREAS, the Seward Historic Preservation Commission passed a motion of support at the August 24, 2005 meeting and proposed that the City apply for a grant to assist with the historic reconstruction of Hoben Park; and WHEREAS, the City Council approved Resolution 2005-95 authorizing the City Manager to submit an application for a Historic Preservation fund grant to continue the historic restoration of Hoben Park. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: Section 1. The Historic Preservation Commission hereby recommends that the City Council authorize the City Manager to execute the Historic Preservation Fund grant from the State of Alaska, Department of Natural Resources in order to purchase and install approximately 260 feet of wrought iron fencing along Hoben Park's north and west boundaries. Seward Historic Preservation Commission Resolution 2006-05 Page 2 Section 2. This resolution shall take effect inunediately upon its adoption.
