RESOLUTION 2005-02
A RESOLUTION OF THE PORT AND COMMERCE ADVISORY
BOARD OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, IN SUPPORT OF
THE CITY CONTINUING TO MAINTAIN AND OPERATE A
50-TON TRA VELIFT
WHEREAS, the Small Boat Harbor owns and operates two Marine TraveIift with 50 and
250-ton capacity; and
WHEREAS, the 50-ton TraveIift needs to be replaced or private industry should purchase
and operate a lift.
WHEREAS, the City Council asked the Port and Commerce Advisory Board to explore
options for the 50-ton, including purchasing a new lift, and.
WHEREAS, lifting and launching boats is a valuable service that the Seward Boat Harbor
provides for recreational and commercial vessels, and
WHEREAS, in addition to the required Commercial Driving Licenses and countless hours of
Safety Training, the Harbor Equipment Operators have completed Marine Straddlelift Operator
Training; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PORT AND COMMERCE
ADVISORY BOARD OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA that:
Section 1. users of the lift have enjoyed years of positive service, and privatizing the
Travelift service is not be in the best interest of the City, and
Section 2. it is recommended that the City Council give the Harbormaster permission to
proceed with the purchase of a new Travelift and dock, and
Section 3. This resolution shall take affect immediately upon its adoption
PASSED AND APPROVED by the Port and Commerce Advisory Board of the City of Seward,
Alaska, this 6th day of April 2005.
