CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION 2008-076
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPROPRIATE
FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $25,000 TO THE SEWARD BOYS AND
GIRLS CLUB
WHEREAS, Boys and Girls Clubs offer programs and services that promote and
enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness,
belonging and influence; and
WHEREAS, the Boys and Girls Club board has requested financial support from the
City of Seward in the form of $25,000.00; and
WHEREAS, the goal of the funding is to avoid having the Kenai Peninsula Boys and
Girls Club close their doors in Seward; and
WHEREAS, the Kenai Peninsula Boys & Girls Club has agreed and assured the City
that all of the City funds provided will directly benefit the community of Seward; and
WHEREAS, this funding will ensure the Boys & Girls Club of the Kenai Peninsula will
keep their Seward programs active until they are more successful obtaining corporate/ business
sponsorship for their long term sustainability.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA that:
Section 1. One time funding in the amount of $25,000 is appropriated as follows:
$1,000 from the city council contingency fund account number 101-1110-5690 and
$24,000 from the general fund balance no. 101-0000-3050 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of
the Kenai Peninsula for use in Seward.
Section 2. A11 of the City's funding of the Boys and Girls Club shall be restricted to the
community of Seward's Boys and Girls Club and will directly benefit the community of
Seward.
Section 3. This resolution shall take affect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 11th day of
August, 2008.

Agenda Item: Boys & Girls Club Contribution
BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION:
The board of the Boys and Girls Club of the Kenai Peninsula has requested immediate funding in
the amount of $25,000 to continue operating the Seward Boys & Girls Club program. The Boys
& Girls Club Board has further informed the City Council they will request an additional
$50,000 from the City of Seward to fund their program in their next fiscal year. During the July
28, 2008 Seward City Council meeting, the City Manager was directed to bring back a resolution
to fund this first request.
The Boys and Girls Club has been active in Seward for over one-half of a decade, programming
from the Seward Elementary School. Their website states "Boys and Girls Clubs offer programs
and services that promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of
competence, usefulness, belonging and influence."
CONSISTENCY CHECKLIST:
Where applicable, this resolution is consistent with the Seward City Code, Charter,
Comprehensive Plans, Land Use Plans, Strategic Plan and City Council Rules of Procedures.
FISCAL NOTE:
One time funding in the amount of $25,000 is appropriated as follows: $1000 from the city

Approve Resolution 2008- Appropriate $25,000 from the city council contingency fund
account number 101-1110-5690 to the Seward Boys and Girls Club.
