Council Agenda Statement Meeting Date: September 2, 2008 To: Phillip Oates, City Manager From: W.C. Casey, Public Works Director Agenda Item: Authorization I:or Pump Repairs BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION: In early August of 2008, the City experienced a pump failure at the City's primary lift station (#3 Lift Station, by the waterfall). This lift station facility is the key to pumping "all" sewage from the City to the Lowell Point Wastewater Treatment Facility. We do have redundant pumping capabilities at this lift station. Staff feels that due to the "real" possibility of unexpected events (flooding, etc.) that it is in the City's best interest to repair the pump that failed, now. The vendor, Alaska Pump & Supply, Inc., has quoted us a "new pump" price of $34,460, with a 6 month delivery time. The vendor disassembled the old pump and determined that it could be fixed at a cost of $14,862, and an estimated repair time of 2-3 weeks. It is the recommendation of staff that the Seward City Council authorize the repair of the 2600 gpm I~lygt 3300 pump at Lift Station #3. Alaska Pump & Supply, Inc. is the only authorized Flygt pump dealership in the State of Alaska. INTENT: The Seward City Council authorize the City Manager to initiate the repairs of the Flygt 3300 sewage pump at Alaska Pump & Supply, Inc. for an amount not-to-exceed $16,000. CONSISTENCY CHECKLIST: Where applicable, this resolution is consistent with the Seward City Code, Charter, Comprehensive Plans, Land Use Plans, Strategic Plan and City Council Rules of Procedures. Other: FISCAL NOTE: Funding in the amount of $16,000 is available in the Wastewater Enterprise Fund, Acct. # 703-7900- 5380. Approved by Finance Department: RECOMMENDATION: Council approve Resolution 2008-086, authorizing the City Manager to repair the Flygt 3300 pump at Alaska Pump & Supply, Inc., at a cost not-to-exceed $16,000.
