RESOLUTION 2008-093
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, ACCEPTING GRANT FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $2553 FROM
THE STATE OF ALASKA, AUTHORIZING PURCHASE OF A NETWORK
SERVER FOR THE LIBRARY AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS
WHEREAS, the library network server is essential for performance of library functions
such as checking out and receiving materials and maintaining the patron and item
database; and
WHEREAS, the current network server is eight years old and completely full; and
WHEREAS, a grant was submitted to the State of Alaska to replace the server; and
WHEREAS, the grant was awarded.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Manager is authorized to appropriate $2553 of State grant funds
account no. 101-0000-4680-0200 to the library 2008 small tools and equipment account.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this
22"d day of September 2008.

Agenda Item: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, ACCEPTING GRANT FUNDS IN THE
AMOUNT OF $2553 FROM THE STATE OF ALASKA,
AUTHORIZING PURCHASE OF A NETWORK SERVER FOR.
THE LIBRARY AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS.
BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION:
Recently, the eight year old network server in the library flashed an error message: Cannot perform
desired function. Check with technical support. Upon further investigation the server was found to
be completely full, leaving no room to add more information or ferret out pieces of data for use. City
technical support personnel patched up the server for the immediate future with. the recommendation
to purchase a new one.
A grant application was submitted to the State of Alaska requesting funds to replace the old server.
The server requested in the grant proposal is the same as one recently purchased in another city
department making in-house technical support easier as technicians will. be working with the same
units and support personnel if needed.
Interlifirury Cooperation Grant Funds in the amount of $2553 will be combined with $300 from the
library equipment budget to purchase this server. This resolution will accept the $2553 from the
grant and appropriate those funds into the library 2008 budget.
CONSISTENCY CHECKLIST:
Where applicable, this resolution is consistent with the Seward City Code, Charter, Comprehensive
Plans, Land Use Plans, Strategic Plan. and City Council Rules of Procedures.
FISCAL NOTE:
The City Manager is authorized to appropriate $2553 of State grant funds account no. 1 Ol -0000-

RECOMMENDATION: ~~
City Council approves Resolution 2008- authorizing the City Manager to accept grant funds from
the State of Alaska and appropriate $2553 to the library budget for the purchase of a network server.
