RESOLUTION 2008-133
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCTL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, OFFICIALLY NAMING THE SEWARD LONG TERM CARE
FACILITY AS SEWARD MOUNTAIN HAVEN, THE MAIN FACILITY
BUILDING AS WESLEY COMMONS AND THE RESIDENCES AS LUPINE
LODGE, EAGLE LODGE, RAVEN LODGE AND FIREWEED LODGE
WHEREAS, to promote public participation in the naming of the Long Tenn Care Facility
campus, commons building and homes, the Seward City Council created a five (5) member Citizen
Advisory Committee during its October 13, 2008 Council Meeting; and
WHEREAS, the Citizen Advisory Committee held four public meetings and encouraged
community participation through the placement of five (5) suggestion boxes, soliciting
approximately 40 suggestion ballots; and
WHEREAS, name suggestions have also been received from the current residents of the
Wesley Rehabilitation and Care Center and from Providence Hospital employees; and
WHEREAS, Wesley Rehabilitation and Care Center and Providence Hospital staff and
employees support the proposed names; and
WHEREAS, Wesley Rehabilitation and Care Center residents will have the opportunity to
designate cacti home with one of the chosen names; and
WHEREAS, Providence Seward has requested that the campus, resident homes and
commons building be named by December 2008 or early January 2009 to include the information
and description in its facility brochure.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE C[TY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The Long Term Care Facility, located at 2203 Oak Street, is named Seward
Mountain Haven.
Section 2. The main facility building is named Wesley Commons and the individual
residences are Warned Lupine Lodge, Eagle Lodge, Raven Lodge and Fireweed Lodge.
Section 4. This resolution shall take affect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 8`~' day

BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION:
The City of Seward's Long Term Care Facility (LTCF) construction began in the spring of 2008.
"The LTCF consists of four (4) resident homes and a commons building. The project's early
completion is scheduled for August 2009. Residents and staffwill occupy the building soon after.
Staff received inyuiries about namvIg the buildings and suggestions have been received from the
current residents ofthe Wesley Rehabilitation Care Center and ti•om Providence Hospital employees.
Seward Providence requested that the campus, resident homes and convnons building be named by
December or early .Ianuary to include in their facility brochure.
In order to promote public participation in namnig the LTCF campus and buildings, Council created a
five (5) member Citizen Advisory Committee. The Mayor appointed the committee members, with
the advice and consent of the Council, at the October 13, 2008 Council Meeting.
The Conunittee organized community participation through the placement of suggestion boxes and
nearly 40 suggestions were offered for consideration. Four public meetings were held, including a
visit to the site, to select the names that have bee~~ forwarded to Council for review and approval.
The suggested campus name is Seward Mountain I Iaven. The suggested buildulgnames are Wesley
Commons, Lupine Lodge, Eagle Lodge, Raven Lodge and Fireweed Lodge.
