CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION 2012 -075
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, CONTINUING THE STATE OF DISASTER EMERGENCY DUE
DECLARED SEPTEMBER 19, 2012 BY THE CITY MANAGER AND
AUTHORIZED BY THE CITY COUNCIL ON SEPTEMBER 24 2012,
REQUESTING INTER - JURISDICTION ASSISTANCE
WHEREAS, beginning on September 15, 2012, substantial heavy rainfall coupled with high
winds began to affect the City of Seward and outlying areas; and
WHEREAS, on September 19, 2012, flooding conditions worsened and an Emergency
Operations Center was opened by the City of Seward to protect life and coordinate emergency
response efforts; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager of the City of Seward issued a Disaster Emergency
Declaration on September 19, 2012 at 1:15pm; and
WHEREAS, City Council authorized the Manager's declaration on September 24, 2012,
and,

WHEREAS, such declarations of disaster can only be continued or renewed for a period in
excess of seven (7) days by or with the consent of the governing body, and
WHREEAS, a state of emergency beyond the City's financial capability continues to exist,
requiring additional resources from inter jurisdictional sources, and
WHEREAS, a continuation of the Declaration of Emergency requesting those resources was
requested by the City Manager of the City of Seward on September 26th at 1:15 pm.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA that:
Section 1. A disaster emergency per Alaska Statute 26.23.140; is declared to continue to
exist within the City of Seward.
Section 2. Per Alaska Statute 26.23.140 this resolution extends the disaster emergency
declaration made by the City Manager of the City of Seward for a period of sixty (60) days in order
to allow for appropriate response to the disaster by the City of Seward, Kenai Peninsula Borough,
and the State of Alaska.

Section 3. This resolution shall take affect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 28 day of
September 2012.
