Sponsored by: Hunt <br /> CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br /> RESOLUTION 2014-053 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, <br /> ALASKA, AUTHORIZING AN AMENDMENT TO THE FIVE YEAR <br /> CONTRACT FOR $670,821.00 WITH THE STATE OF ALASKA, <br /> DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS,TO PROVIDE FOR OPERATING THE <br /> SEWARD COMMUNITY JAIL AND HOUSING PRISONERS CHARGED <br /> AND/OR SENTENCED UNDER ALASKA STATUTES <br /> WHEREAS,the City of Seward has received a proposed amendment to the five year contract <br /> from the State of Alaska for the operation of the Seward community Jail; and <br /> WHEREAS, the contract amount for the City of Seward is $670,821.00, this amount has <br /> increased by $15,357.00 from the 2013 contract, to operate the Seward Community Jail in <br /> accordance with the attached contract from July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015. <br /> NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br /> OF SEWARD,ALASKA that: <br /> Section 1. The Seward City Council hereby authorizes the City Manager to enter an <br /> amendment to the five year contract for $670,821.00 with the State of Alaska, Department of <br /> Corrections, to provide for operating the Seward Community Jail and housing prisoners charged <br /> and/or sentenced under Alaska Statutes. <br /> Section 2. The City Council herby instructs the administration to continue lobbying for <br /> additional state funding of the Seward Community Jail such that the local tax payers are not asked to <br /> subsidize the cost of operating the jail for state-related offenses. <br /> Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. <br /> PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 23`d day of <br /> June 2014. <br /> L <br />
