RESOLUTION 2016-039
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE DISCHARGE OF FIREWORKS BY THE
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE DURING THE 2016 FOURTH OF JULY
CELEBRATION
WHEREAS,Seward City Code§10.10.040 prohibits the discharge of fireworks within City
limits unless specifically approved by the City Council; and
WHEREAS, the Chamber of Commerce has requested permission to conduct a fireworks
display on Monday, July 4, 2016 at 12:01 a.m. with an alternate date of Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at
12:01 a.m.; and
WHEREAS,the site for the discharge of fireworks has been identified as the uplands area
south of the harbor and has been approved by the Fire Chief as required by Seward City Code; and
WHEREAS, the City has customarily allowed the Chamber of Commerce to provide a
fireworks display within City limits in conjunction with its Fourth of July celebration.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD,ALASKA that:
Section 1. As a part of its Fourth of July Celebration,the Seward Chamber of Commerce is
authorized to discharge fireworks within City limits at a time and place that has received prior
approval from the Fire Chief.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 13th
day of June 2016.

Agenda Item: 2016 Fireworks permit
BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION:
The Seward Chamber of Commerce has requested permission from City Council to hold a
fireworks display on July 4, 2016 at 12:01 A.M. The display will last 15 — 20 minutes. The
display location will be the same as in years past, the south breakwater area behind Harbor View
condominiums.
Seward City Code 10.10. 040 (a) prohibits the discharge of fireworks in Seward unless specially
approved by the City Council. The Council has customarily allowed the Chamber to provide an
annual fireworks display within City limits to coincide with its Fourth of July celebration. The
fireworks display will be conducted by the Chambers identified vendor, Lantis Fireworks &
Lasers.
The Fire Department has inspected and approved of the display site and location. The identified
alternate day in case of inclement weather is July 5th at 12:01 A.M.

Approve the Seward Chamber of Commerce's request for permission to conduct a fireworks
display in conjunction with the Fourth of July celebration.
