OF 00 ' • S• EAL `; • O Agenda Statement Meeting Date: July 24, 2017 To: Jim Hunt, City Manager From: Norm Regis, Harbormaster Agenda Item: Appropriating funds to repair the 50-ton travelift BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION: The 50 ton travelift is having control issues. The steering will turn hard over while driving or a winch will not stop when the controls are released while still lifting the vessel. It has become a safety issue for the operators, yard workers, public and the patron’s vessels. The Seward Harbor maintenance personnel have been replacing control valves for the hoists; block adjustment and steering to keep the 50 ton travelift operational. The replacement parts are getting harder to acquire because the company that makes the valves has stopped manufacturing the parts. The City has been notified by Marine Travelift / Kendrick Equipment they have been replacing the older control valves with a new Salami/VOAC retro kit. This is the same control system used on the 330 ton travelift. This unforeseen maintenance item was not budgeted in the 2017 Harbor budget and there are insufficient funds within the 50 ton travelift division budget to cover this needed safety replacement. To safely continue to operate the 50 ton travelift requires replacing the older control valves with the new Salami/VOAC retro kit and an appropriation to cover these costs. INTENT: To amend the 2017 Seward Boat Harbor 50 ton travelift budget for replacement of the older control valves with the new Salami/VOAC retro kit.
