RESOLUTION 2004-32
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXERCISE THE
OPTION TO EXTEND THE SNOW REMOVAL CONTRACT WITH THE
AFOGNAK CONSTRUCTION AND EXCAVATING, INC, FOR THE
PERIOD BEGINNING NOVEMBER 30, 2003 TO APRIL 1, 2004
WHEREAS, council passed and approved Resolution 2002-140 on the 9th day of
December 2002; and
WHEREAS, contract provides for on-call snow removal/sanding service for the 2002-
2003 winter season; and
WHEREAS, the contract may be renewed for two additional yearly terms at the sole
option of the City; and
WHEREAS, the City would like to extend their contract with Afognak Construction and
Excavating, Inc. from November 30, 2003, through April 1, 2004; and
WHEREAS, total contract price for the project and this contract extended period will not
exceed the originally approved $15,000.00 contract amount.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The contract extension described in the recitals and incorporated herein is
hereby ratified, and the City Manager is authorized to extend the contract with Afognak
Construction and Excavating, Inc. for the period beginning November 30, 2003 to April 1, 2004.
Section 2. The total contract price for the project and this contract extended period will
not exceed the originally approved $15,000.00 contract amount. Funding for this contract will be
from account 101-1314-5390.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 22nd March
2004.

Agenda Item: Extending Afognak Construction and Excavating, Inc.’s contract for
Snow Removal/Sanding Service
BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION:

City Council passed and approved Resolution 2002-140 on the 9 day of December 2002. This
contract provides for on-call snow removal/sanding service for the 2002-2003 winter season.
Resolution 2002-140 has provided a provision whereas, the contract may be renewed for two
additional yearly terms at the sole option of the City. The 2002-2003 winter season was unusually
mild, keeping the City’s expenditures to a minimum. Due to heavier then usual snow fall this season,
the City would like to extend their contract with Afognak Construction and Excavating, Inc. from
November 30, 2003, through April 1, 2004. Total contract price for the project will not exceed the
original $15,000.00.

The City is requesting Council’s approval to exercise our option to extend the contract with Afognak
Construction and Excavating, Inc. Funding for this contract will be from account 101-1314-5390.

RECOMMENDATION:
Council Approve Resolution 2004-32, authorizing the City Manager to exercise our option to extend
the Snow Removal & Sanding Services contract with Afognak Construction and Excavating, Inc.
for the period beginning November 30, 2003 to April 1, 2004.
