RESOLUTION 2017-076
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, ACCEPTING A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $13,079 FROM
KENAI MOUNTAINS — TURNAGAIN ARM (KMTA) NATIONAL
HERITAGE AREA, REQUIRING A LOCAL MATCH OF $1,673 FROM
PARKS AND RECREATION, TO UPDATE INTERPRETIVE PANELS, AND
APPROPRIATING FUNDS
WHEREAS, the City of Seward Parks and Recreation Department applied for and received a
matching grant of $13,079 toward a project cost of $14,752 for updating and reproducing seven
interpretive panels along Waterfront Park and the National Historic Iditarod Trail. These seven
panels will replace signs which served Seward for over 20 years; and
WHEREAS, interpretive panels welcome and inform visitor and residents and move
pedestrians from place to place, and old panels from the 1990s are broken, worn and outdated; and
WHEREAS, the seven signs are short -titled: Alaska Gateway, Birds of Res Bay, Earthquake,
Kenai Fjords, Marine Mammals, Tides, and Whales; and
WHEREAS, it is in the City of Seward's Comprehensive Plan and best interest to engage
and inform residents and visitors regarding Seward's history and present day natural wonders and
wildlife, with the goals of piquing curiosity to further engage in the community's variety of
recreation choices.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The Seward City Council hereby accepts a grant in the amount of $13,079 from
Kenai Mountains — Turnagain Arm (KMTA) National Heritage Area, requiring a local match of
$1,673 from the Parks and Recreation Department, to update interpretive panels.
Section 2. Funding in the amount of $13,079 is accepted into grant revenue account no.
01000-1410-4253, with matching funds of $1,673 coming from the Parks and Recreation budget, for
a total appropriation of $14,752 to account no. 01000-1410-7009.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 271h
day of November 2017.

BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION:
The City of Seward parks and recreation department applied for and received a matching grant of
$13,079 toward a project cost of $14,752 for updating and reproducing seven interpretive panels

portion is $1,673 and is contained in the department's budget.
