Year to date (8/31/2018) the Port of Seward has had the following vessel traffic
109 large vessels including freight barges and ships, fishing boats and processors, mil tary, and private
yachts
59 Cruise ships with 11 more to arrive for a total season of 70. Last Cruise Ship will be September 26,
2018.
Not included in this count is the USCG Healy that will be at the Port at the time of this meeting.
Upcoming events at the Terminal in October -
Seward Music and Arts Festival October 5-7, 2018
• Alaska Association of Harbormasters and Port Administrators Conference being held in Seward in partnership with
the City of Seward Harbor Department. Majority of the Conference will be held at the IMS Rae Building and other
venues, but the Conference Banquet will be held at the Terminal on October 10, 2018
• Pioneers of Alaska Annual Conference October 17-20.
• City of Seward Community Halloween Carnival October 31, 2018
Other Items -
Last day of Coastal Classic will be September 16, 2018
• 2019 Cruise Ship Season Schedule was updated to 90 cruise ships with a total of 15 double ship days (see
schedule attached)
• 2019 Cruise Ship Season includes Viking Cruise Line that will remain at the dock three days as both a Port of Call
and Turn Around Port -
Day 1- Passengers onboard will enjoy the day at the Port and participate in excursions
Day 2- Passengers will debark in the AM and new set of passengers will embark in the PM
Day 3- Passengers from embark on Day 2 will enjoy the day at the Port and participate in excursions.
Ship will depart at 1700.

Scenic joumey by rail to one of Southcentral Alaska's favorite annual events: the Seward Music & Arts Festival. Depart from
the Anchorage depot on Saturday morning, enjoying an onboard musical performance before arriving to Seward in the early
afternoon. Free shuttle service provided from the Seward Rail Depot to the Seward Music & Arts Festival Event and around
Seward both Sat & Sun. Plenty of lime to explore the festival before the mid -afternoon return rail journey on Sun.

r 63rd Silver Salmon Derby saw the most fish ever weighed in one day - 450 on Day 7, Friday,
About 5,600 Anglers turned in 2415 fish for a total of just over 21,455 lbs. So although ticket sales were
slightly down from 2017 - the fishing was better for this year's participants. Average Coho weighed almost
9 Ibs! We very much enjoyed having the Obihiro (and Seward!) dignitaries join us at the Awards Ceremony.
Stacey Walters of Seward caught the winning Coho weighing 16.73 Ibs good for a first -place trophy and
$10,000! The tagged fish are still out there - so if you catch one, bring in the tag, it's good for $100.
First Friday Art Walk, September 7th
- The new Blue Pipeline Incubator Manager/ Business Adviser Justin Sternberg of Nevada City, CA is in
Anchorage this week with Joel Claudohos at the Accelerate Alaska workshops. Thanks to locals Willow Hetrick
and Ron Wille for applying - we are sure there'll be many ways for them to be involved with this new
endeavor.
Justin Sternberg
is an entrepreneur who has founded and worked with clean energy and ocean
technology companies providing expertise in fundraising, strategic planning, and
business
development.
In 2010, Mr. Sternberg
co-founded Continuum Industries, a company that worked with municipalities
and the Department of Energy to develop implementation strategies for the
transition to solid-state streetlighting.
In 2014, he joined Blue Evolution, an early stage seaweed mariculture company,
where he successfully permitted Alaska's first commercial seaweed hatchery,
while working closely with the University of Alaska and the State to develop best practices for this nascent
industry.
He received an MBA in Sustainable Management from the Presidio Graduate School in San Francisco, CA, in
2008 and has worked in Alaska since 1997.
Justin has recently been hired to fill the position of Blue Pipeline Incubator Manager/Business Adviser for
Seward, AK.

F We've returned to a 5-day work week at the chamber and visitor center. 9-5 Monday - Friday
PACAB HARBOR
1. Conducted meetings with Hamilton Construction and R&M for the Breakwater project on 08/16/18 &
8/23/18.
2. The 330 ton will require a two-day shut down when the paving company shows up.
3. Conducted a pre -bid conference meeting with PND and proposed bidders on 8/14/2018 for the South
Harbor Launch Ramp. Six proposed bidders made their presence for the meeting and site visit.
4. The new fisherman float is in place, electrical and water are being installed.
5. The piling is all installed at the North Dock and we are waiting on the fenders to be installed, around
early September.
6. Salmon derby was a success no major issues.
The base of the crane
has been installed.
7. I have included the e-mail I received from DEC Air Quality Control on the Jag dust issue. I sent this to
Council and PACAB the public should know the results of the States findings.
Hello Norm,
So, the status of the current complaint is Inactive. Having had yourself and your deputy inspect the sight prior to
and after the curtain was assembled and raised, we have yet to see definitive evidence demonstrating that hydro
sanding material is escaping the property line and causing a violation of 18 AAC 50.110. An advisory letter will
be sent to JAG Industries to document the complaint being received, the inspection history and to state the state
regulations to make sure compliance with 110 is maintained. Then the complaint will remain in inactive status
for a period of time to make sure no additional complaints are received and the issue has been resolved.

Terry thanked Chairman Schaefermeyer for his years of service. It is great that the private
sector partnerships with the Chamber, the City and the support form the PACAB body were able
to come together for the SMIC relaunch and it was a great turn -out.
Regis also thanked everyone for their support and involvement with the SMIC event. Also
thanked Schaefermeyer for all of his years of service. He mentioned how Scott Ransom was
impressed with all of the work that had been done at SMIC.
Schaefermeyer thanked everyone for all of their work and keep up the good work and he
mention that we have a great board. He is looking forward to what is to come. He also thanked
Cindy Clock and told everyone that we have a great Chamber of Commerce and appreciates their
support.
