Personal and community benefits of a usable and practical Seward airport
My name is Wade Roberts my wife Carol and I have lived in the Seward area since 2003. In that time the discussion of
what the airport needs to better serve the community has been discussed many, many times, but no action has been
taken to make the airport better for the community and the true asset it could be. If we want a vibrant healthy and
thriving area we can not allow the airport to become smaller and lesser. Commercial and public safety uses of the
airport will continue to increase as the area grows or a less useful airport will hamper both commercial growth
and public safety. General aviation is great but safety and commercial uses I feel will be the future drivers for the airport
and thus the area. I think the work done at SMIC will also require the airport improvements to reach its full potential,
otherwise why was it built.
My motives for writing this are not however wholly altruistic. We are trying to sell our home on 12 acres and a 16 acre
Bayfront parcel, both in the 1M dollar range, I feel that an airport able to support private jets and larger twin engine
aircraft would make both of our pieces much more saleable.The ability to fly in from the lower 48 and enjoy the beauty
and activities that Seward has to offer and fly back would surely help our sales prospects. Flying to Soldotna or
Anchorage and driving here just takes too much time.The folks who would partake in this kind of lifestyle would have a
disproportionately large economic impact on the area.
Please improve the airport so that the future citizens can enjoy a better Seward than we have.
