CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION 2002-106
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT TO THE
STATE OF ALASKA, DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, AN
APPLICATION FOR A HISTORIC PRESERVATION FUND GRANT TO
DEVELOP A SEWARD NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE TROLLEY TOUR
WHEREAS, pursuant to the National Park Service Historic Preservation Act of 1966,
certain federal share matching grants for historic preservation projects are available to certified
local governments; and
WHEREAS, the Seward Historic Preservation Commission has prepared an historic
preservation grant application to develop a Seward National Historic Site Trolley Tour; and
WHEREAS, the total project cost is anticipated to be $16,500 with a federal share of
$9,900 and a local match of $6,600. The City's match for this project will be provided by cash,
in-kind, and donated goods and services; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed the application prepared by the Historic
Preservation Commission and is aware of the obligations and responsibilities that will be
incurred by the City of Seward upon acceptance of the requested grant.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA that:
Section 1. The City Council hereby authorizes the City Manager to submit an
application to the State of Alaska, Department of Natural Resources, for a federal share matching
grant project to develop a Seward Historic Site Trolley Tour.
Section 2. The Community Development Division is established as the agent for the City
of Seward for the administration of this project.
Section 3. If the City of Seward is awarded the grant for the Seward Historic Site Trolley
Tour, the City Council will solicit matching funds from the Seward Chamber of Commerce in
kind or otherwise.
Section 4. This resolution shall take affect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 14th day
of October, 2002.
