RESOLUTION 2002-111
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO CONTRIBUTE $1,000
TO THE CLOSE UP WASHINGTON 2003 PROGRAM TRIP EXPENSES
WHEREAS, Close Up Washington D.C. is a program of the nonpartisan Close Up
Foundation, and the nation's largest civic education organization; and
WHEREAS, since 1971 nearly 600,000 students, educators, and adults have experienced
watching and interacting with our nation's government in our nation's capital; and
WHEREAS, during this week long program the students will attend classes and workshops
to learn how the democratic process works; and
WHEREAS, the juniors from Seward High School have requested a donation from the City
of Seward for their 2003 trip to attend this educational opportunity; and
WHEREAS, each junior attending this program will donate four hours of volunteer time to
the City of Seward.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The Council authorizes the City Manager to contribute $1,000 to the Close Up
Washington 2003 program trip expenses from Account 101-1110-5730, Mayor and Council
Promotions Budget.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 18th
day of November, 2002.
