CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 81-48
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, PROHIBITING SMOKING IN THE CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS
DURING OFFICIAL MEETINGS
WHEREAS, smoking has been determined to be a health hazard,
not only for the smoker but also for those who breath the smoke deposited
in the air by the smoker, and
WHEREAS, the State of Alaska has passed legislation which
bans smoking at public meetings sponsored by a State agency, and
WHEREAS, many citizens of Seward have stated that they do not
attend Council meetings because of the smoke-filled atmosphere, and
WHEREAS, the Seward City Council wishes to follow the State's
direction, and to encourage attendance at its bi-monthly meetings;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that smoking in the Council Chambers during the
conduct of official business is hereby prohibited;
AND, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that "No Smoking" signs shall be
placed in the Seward City Council Chambers to notify all those in attendance
of the prohibition.
