HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1981-049 r 10/20/81 FBA:rsa CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 81-49 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF SEWARD, ALASKA, RECOGNIZING CONTINUED INTEREST IN PETRO-CHEMICAL DEVELOPMENT IN SEWARD. WHEREAS, the City of Seward possesses a unique combination of deep water port, railroad and highway access to interior Alaska, and WHEREAS, the City of Seward has historically been industri- ally underdeveloped and reliant upon seasonal industries, and WHEREAS, the City of Seward has undertaken the development of an infrastructure suitable for rapid economic and population expansion, and WHEREAS, to encourage permanent placement in Seward of major industries the City has undertaken development of a Marine Indus- trial Park at the 4th of July Creek on Resurrection Bay, and WHEREAS, the DOW-Shell Consortium has expressed an interest in developing a petro-chemical industry in Seward or other Alaskan locations but has recently reported that such development may not be economically feasible at the present time, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY SEWARD, ALASKA, that Section 1. That the City of Seward will continue develop- ment of its infrastructure for industrial and population growth, and Section 2. The City will concentrate efforts on placement of capital improvement and projects to make the Marine Industrial Park economically attractive to potential industrial users, and Section 3. The City administration is directed to concen- trate City resources on development of near-term industrial use of the Marine Industrial Terminal, and Section 4. The City remains interested in cooperating with any potential large industrial users such as DOW-Shell if and when such a user becomes convinced that long-range plans or projects are economically feasible in Seward.
