HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1981-058 r I I i i I 12/11/81 DS:jml CITY OF SEI.IARD RESOLUTION NO. 81-58 A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE KENAI PENINSULA BOROUGH TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE STAFFING OF THE ASSESSORS OFFICE TO CONTINUE AT THE VERY LEAST THE PRACTICE OF BIENNIAL REAL PROPERTY ASSESSMENTS WHEREAS, the Kenai Peninsula Borough reduced its real property assessing staff by reducing their 1981-82 budget, and liHEREAS, the budget cut will result in many areas not being assessed on at least a biennial basis and therefore create instability on the part of the cities and service areas to maintain a stable mill levy, and WHEREAS, many property owners in the absence of at least a biennial assessment will receive substantial increases on their assessments representing three or four year intervals between assessments, and WHEREAS, good, sound fiscal government policy designed to stabilize as much as possible the various tax levies of the City of Seward is the desire of the City Council of the City of Seward. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: Section 1. The Kenai Peninsula Borough adequately staff the assessing department to provide at the very least biennial real property assessments in the City of Seward and the Kenai Peninsula Borough. Section 2. The Kenai Peninsula Borough is requested to provide in its 1982-83 budget adequate funding to eliminate the multi-year assessment cycle bringing the Borough in strict conformance with Alaska law, thereby achieving equity of assessments. Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption. PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, this 14 day of December , 1981.
