CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION 2002-058
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A
CONTRACT WITH ZUBECK, INC. FOR WATER/SEWER EXPANSION
AT SMIC FOR AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $58,300 AND
APPROPRIATE FUNDS FROM THE WATER/SEWER MAJOR REPAIR
& REPLACEMENT FUND
WHEREAS, continuing construction at Seward Marine Industrial Center (SMIC)
requires expansion of water/sewer facilities there; and
WHEREAS, the portion of the expansion on SMIC property IS being
designedlbuilt by Zubeck Construction Company of Kenai, Alaska; and
WHEREAS, in coordinating proposed construction of these water and sewer
lines, Zubeck has cooperated with the City of Seward Department of Public Works to
assure proper sizing, alignment, line and grade; and

WHEREAS, a great deal of preliminary work has been performed on the portion
outside the SMIC property for which the City will be responsible. Zubeck Construction
was asked to give an estimate of costs for designing/building the portion of the
water/sewer work that would be the City of Seward's portion; and
WHEREAS, the Public Works Department and the Engineering Department
agree that it would be in the best interest of the City of Seward to enter into a contract
with Zubek Construction Company, without going to a competitive bid, in the amount of
$58,300; and
WHEREAS, pre-design, mobilization/demobilization costs, and coordination
costs will be saved as a result of work already performed by Zubeck; and
WHEREAS, this will result in considerable savings to the Citizens of Seward.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that
Section 1. The City Council authorizes the City Manager to enter into a contract
with Zubeck Construction Company.

Section 2. The City Council hereby appropriates an amount not to exceed $58,300
from the Water and Sewer Maintenance Repair & Replacement Fund to accounts 701-
7940-5390 and 701-7440-5390.

Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska,
this 10th day of June, 2002.
