RESOLUTION 2001-044
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, SUPPORTING THE QUTEKCAK NATIVE TRIBE'S PLAN TO
DEVELOP A LOCAL DISPLAY FACILITY IN SEWARD, ALASKA
WHEREAS, the Qutekcak Tribal Council is the recognized Native governing body for the
community of Seward, Alaska; and
WHEREAS, the Qutekcak Tribal Council has identified a need, for a Local Display Facility
to house Native artifacts located or disturbed during the 1989 oil spill and related clean-up activity;
and
WHEREAS, the Local Display Facility will provide a location for meetings and workshops:
and a means of integrating the Native elder and youth programs to create a living museum where
both the past and future are represented; and
WHEREAS, building a Local Display Facility is a means to preserving the history and
culture ofthe Native people of Seward and a means to furthering the awareness and education ofthe
culture of the Native people of Seward; and
WHEREAS, the Qutekcak Tribal Council has committed to provide financial support for
the Local Display Facility to guarantee that it will be managed and operated for a minimum of
twenty years.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The Seward City Council supports the Qutekcak Native Tribe's Local Display
Facility project
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council ofthe City of Seward, Alaska, this 27th
day of March, 2001.
