HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes2001-049 I I I Postponed Indefinitely Sponsored by: Clerk CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION 2001-049 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, INCREASING MUNICIPAL CEMETERY DEPOSITS WHEREAS, the City of Seward is the owner of the public cemetery; and WHEREAS, Resolution 97-094 established cemetery fees, rules and regulations; and WHEREAS,a properly managed and maintained cemetery reflects well on community image and provides peace of mind for relatives of deceased friends and family; and WHEREAS, accurate burial markers are essential to provide for identification of burial locations so that family and friends can locate individuals in the future; and WHEREAS, the current deposit rate for the burial marker deposit fee does not cover the actual costs of the City purchasing a marker that meets the requirements set forth in Resolution 97- 094; and WHEREAS, there is no deposit rate to pay for the actual costs of clean-up which is often provided by the City; and WHEREAS,these deposits are fully returned once the City verifies adequate clean up of the site is provided and a headstone, meeting the requirements, is placed on the grave site; and WHEREAS, the Seward Community Cemeteries Management Action Plan was recommended for approval by the Historic Preservation Commission and the Planning and Zoning Commission and adopted by City Council Resolution 96-083; and WHEREAS,the Seward Community Cemeteries Management Action Plan recommends that the citizens of Seward should not bear the cost of the cemetery through general tax levies because the cemetery is a function that does not directly benefit all citizens. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: Section 1. The following deposit relating to permitting and use of all cemeteries within the city is adopted and updates the former deposit amount: Burial permit fee Burial marker deposit City employee/equipment $25.00 (SAME) $100.00 $400.00 Billed at current city work order hourly rate (SAME) THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION 2001-049 Section 2. This resolution shall take effect ten days upon its adoption.
