HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes2001-052 I I I Sponsored by: Janke CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION 2001-052 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, IN ADOPTION OF FALSE ALARM CHARGE SCHEDULE & BILLING PROCEDURES WHEREAS, with the revision of the Seward City Code Section 9.15.150., requires a charge schedule and billing procedure for false alarms; and WHEREAS, the schedule must be fair, easily understood, and simple to implement and administer; and WHEREAS, a false alarm is defined as "an alarm generated when no fire or emergency exists; it includes system malfunctions, faulty operation of detectors and intentional activations of alarm systems (malicious mischief)". It does not include incidents where the system operated properly, such as, a smoke detector activation caused by food or a manual pull station being activated due to good intent; and WHEREAS, once a building with an alarm system has had more than three (3) false alarms in a calender year, the Fire Department will notify the Finance Department and provide them with the dates and times of all alarms at the building. The Finance Department shall bill the owner within ten (10) days of the alarm. The owner/occupant shall have thirty (30) days to pay the bill; and WHEREAS, new alarm systems and existing alarm system upgrades will have a 30 day grace period from the time the system is placed into service; and WHEREAS, the owner of a system will be required to notify the Fire Department of work being accomplished prior to its start, for the grace period to be in effect. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA. Section 1. The City of Seward, Alaska, hereby adopts the False Alarm Charge Schedule, are as follows: A) First 3 false alarms within a calender year - no charge B) 4th false alarm within a calender year - $100.00 C) 5th false alarm within a calender year - $125.00 D) 6th false alarm or more within a calender year - $300.00 CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION 2001-052 Section 2. The payment shall be due within thirty (30) days ofthe billing date by the city. Any payment made after the due date shall be assessed a late payment charge of $2.50 per month. Section 3. All past due payments shall accrue interest at the rate ofl 0.5% percent per annum until paid in fulL Section 4. This resolution shall take effect ten days following its adoption.
