RESOLUTION 2001-057
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A
CONTRACT ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF SEWARD WITH METCO
FOR AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $110,585 FOR THE REPLACE-
MENT OF THE FISH DITCH CULVERTS AND APPROPRIATING
$121,644 FROM THE FEMA FLOOD MITIGATION GRANT TO
THE RESURRECTION RIVER STOCKPILE CONTRACTED SERVICES
WHEREAS, a request for bids to replace the culvert was properly advertised; and
WHEREAS, the size of the current culverts are inadequate to pass the required amount of
water to prevent flooding; and
WHEREAS, the City is at risk of serious flood damage during a major storm or flood event;
and
WHEREAS, the City has received a grant of over $300,000 from FEMA for flood
mitigation projects; and
WHEREAS, Metco was the lowest bidder at $100,549; and
WHEREAS, a 10% contingency has been added to the contractor's bid price; and
WHEREAS, an additional 1 0% is also added to cover administrative fees, bringing the total
project cost to $121,644, which is within the budgeted amount for this project.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute a contract on behalf of the City
of Seward with Metco for an amount not to exceed $110,585 for the replacement of the fish ditch
culverts and appropriating $121,644 from the FEMA flood mitigation grant, account no. 666-6662-
4680-0100, to the Resurrection River Stockpile Contracted Services, account no. 666-6662- XXXX.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 23rd
day of April, 2001.
