RESOLUTION 2001-058
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, APPROPRIATING $9,800 FROM THE EXXON VALDEZ SPILL
SETTLEMENT MONIES TO CONDUCT A BEACH FRONT EROSION
PROTECTION AREA
WHEREAS, the beach front area along the camping area is rapidly eroding; and
WHEREAS, portions of the bike path have been undermined and have collapsed; and
WHEREAS, continued erosion may result in the loss of a large section ofthe bike path; and
WHEREAS, the City has a plan to construct a test area to minimize the effects of wave and
tidal action, the test area will be 500 feet long and protected with rip-rap to dissipate wave energy
and tidal action; and
WHEREAS, the City would appropriate $9,800 of the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Settlement
to cover the cost of hauling and placing material and excavation work
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Council appropriates $9,800 from the Legal Recoveries Account in the
General Fund, account no. 1001-000-4630, to the Parks Maintenance Contracted Services, account
no. 101-1410-5390, to fund the construction ofthe erosion protection area.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 23rd
day of April, 2001.
