CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION 2001-086
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT A USDA
ECONOMIC RECOVERY PROGRAM GRANT ON BEHALF OF THE
KENAI SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT
WHEREAS, the Chugach National Forest has invited eligible communities to participate in
the USDA Economic Recovery Program; and
WHEREAS, the program was established in the 1990 Farm Bill, and authorized the Forest
Service to assist communities in diversifying their local economies; and
WHEREAS, the City of Seward is eligible to participate in the program; and
WHEREAS, the Kenai Soil and Water Conservation District has requested the City's
assistance in submitting an application for the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Greenhouse
Initiative, Phase I - Seward High School Greenhouse Renovation; and
WHEREAS, the project consists of renovating the Seward High School greenhouse in order
to implement an educational program for sustainable forestry and grow nursery seedling trees; and
WHEREAS. both the 1991 Seward Comprehensive Plan and 1999 Strategic Plan include
educational components which support improving and expanding the local educational facilities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to submit a USDA Economic Recovery
Program application on behalf of the Kenai Soil and Water Conservation District for the Kenai
Peninsula Borough School District Greenhouse Initiative, Phase I - Seward High School Greenhouse
Renovation.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 9th day
ofJuly, 2001.
