RESOLUTION 2001-102
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A
CONTRACT WITH ALCAN ELECTRICAL AND ENGINEERING, INC. TO
DO MITIGATION WORK ON THE TRANSl\fiSSION AND DISTRIBUTION
LINE BETWEEN MILES 18 AND 22, AT A PRICE NOT-TO-EXCEED
$216,818.75
WHEREAS, the City of Seward incurred damage to the Transmission and Distribution lines
in January 2000 during the heavy snowfall and resultant avalanches; and,
WHEREAS, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has agreed to fund the
mitigation and clearing work which need to be completed to prevent future problems in the same
area; and,
WHEREAS, this work was advertised for bids and three companies responded with bids;
and,
WHEREAS, the City of Seward's consulting engineer, Dryden & LaRue, reviewed the bids
and recommended that ALCAN be determined to be the low bidder and that they be selected for this
contract at an amount not-to-exceed $216,818.73;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Manager is authorized to enter into a contract with Alcan Electrical and
Engineering, Inc. to perform mitigation and clearing work on the Transmission and Distribution lines
between miles 18 and 22 on the Seward Highway at a price not-to-exceed $159,242.00.
Section 2. Contingent upon receipt of additional FEMA funding in the amount of $57,576.73
the contract with ALCAN is approved up to the total amount not-to-exceed $216,818.73 and the
additional $57,576.73 is appropriated to account 866-8661-5390.
Section 3. Funding to be from a FEMA grant and charged to account 866-8661-5390.
Section 4. This resolution to take effect immediately upon its adoption.
