RESOLUTION 2001-107
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, ACCEPTING THE STATE OF ALASKA FY2002 CAPITAL
MATCHING GRANT AWARD OF $73,546, AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A GRANT AGREEMENT WITH THE
ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC
DEVELOPMENT AND APPROPRIATING A TOTAL CAPITAL PROJECT
FUND OF $150,000 FOR THE PURPOSE OF IMPROVING THE FIRE
PROTECTION CAPABILITY OF THE COMMUNITY AND TO COMPLETE
THE FIRE HYDRANT PHASE II PROJECT
WHEREAS, Council approved Resolution 2000-108 on September 25,2000 endorsing the
Fire Hydrant Upgrade Phase II project for the State of Alaska FY 2002 Capital Project Matching
Grant Program; and
WHEREAS, the State has awarded the City of Seward a FY2002 Capital Project Matching
Grant in the amount of $73,546 for the purpose of improving the fire protection capability of the
community; and
WHEREAS, the State Capital Project Matching Grant requires a local match of $14,542; and
WHEREAS, the project will allow for replacement of the oldest substandard hydrants,
installation of hydrants and extension of water lines where required to meet current and future fire
protection needs within the existing water system of the City and dry hydrants will also be developed
where water lines are not available or it is impractical, in order to ensure fire protection needs are met
for existing and new construction; and
WHEREAS, the City's CY2001 Capital Budget for the Water/Sewer Enterprise Fund
included $150,000 to complete the Fire Hydrant Phase II project; and
WHEREAS, the State Grant will provide $73,546 and the Water/Sewer Enterprise Fund will
provide $76,454 for a total project funding of $150,000 for the purpose of improving the fire
protection capability of the community.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City of Seward accepts the State of Alaska FY2002 Capital Matching Grant
Award of $73,546 and authorizes the city manager to enter into a Grant Agreement with the Alaska
Department of Community and Economic Development.
Section 2. Funds in the amount of $150,000 are hereby appropriated, $73,546 from State
Grant Revenues, account no. 708-7080-4680-0200 and $76,454 from the Water/Sewer MRRF,
account no. 702-0000-3071-0708, to the Fire Hydrant Phase II Capital Project Fund, account no.
708-7080-5XXX
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 27th day
of August, 2001.
