RESOLUTION 2001-140
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, ACCEPTING A USDA ECONOMIC RECOVERY PROGRAM
GRANT OF $4,000 ON BEHALF OF THE KENAI SOIL AND WATER
CONSERVATION DISTRICT TO RENOVATE THE SEWARD HIGH
SCHOOL GREENHOUSE AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS
WHEREAS, the Kenai Soil and Water Conservation District requested the City's assistance
in submitting an application for the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Greenhouse Initiative,
Phase I - Seward High School Greenhouse Renovation; and
WHEREAS, Council approved Resolution 2001-086 authorizing the City Manager to submit
a USDA Economic Recovery Program grant application to complete the project; and
WHEREAS, the project consists of renovating the Seward High School greenhouse in order
to implement an educational program for sustainable forestry and grow nursery seedling trees; and
WHEREAS, the Federal grant award is $4,000, and Kenai Peninsula Borough School District
in-kind labor will be used to provide the required 20% match for the project; and
WHEREAS, the City will act as a pass-thru agency for the Kenai Soil and Water
Conservation District to complete the project, and other than administrative time, no city funds will
be used to complete the project.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City of Seward accepts the USDA Economic Recovery Program Grant in the
amount of$4,OOO to the Seward High School Greenhouse Fund, federal grant revenues account no.
200-2003-4680-0100, and appropriates $4,000 to contracted services account no. 200-2003-5390.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 22nd
day of October, 2001.
