CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 89-153
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY eOUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, ESTABLISHING THE GROSS WEEKLY
EARNINGS TO BE USED FOR THE PURPOSE OF CALCULATING
WORKERS' COMPENSATION BENEFITS FOR CERTAIN VOLUNTEERS
WHEREAS, the city has volunteer ambulance attendants and
firemen, and accordingly has the right under state law to establish
the gross weekly earnings to be used for calculating compensation
for injured volunteer ambulance attendants and firemen; and
WHEREAS, the amount of such gross weekly earnings to be used
for calculating the volunteer's workers' compensation benefits must
be at least the Alaska minimum wage computed on the basis for ten,
(10) hours of work per week; and
WHEREAS, adoption of this resolution is necessary to ensure
that the city's workers' compensation insurance premium is as low
as possible and yet fair and equitable to the volunteers;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The city of Seward, in accordance with AS
23.30.220(4), hereby adopts a weekly earning rate of $145.00
computed on the basis of 10 hours of work per week as the gross
weekly earning to be used for calculating workers' compensation
benefits for volunteer ambulance attendants and firemen injured in
the course and scope of rendering volunteer services.
section 2. The clerk is hereby directed to send a copy of
this resolution to the office of the Alaska Municipal League, Joint
Insurance Association, Inc., 217 Second Street, Suite 200, Juneau,
AK 99801, to be used in establishing the city's premium for
workers' compensation insurance for the type of volunteers
described in the resolution.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward,
Alaska, llth this day of December, 1989.
