CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 90-014 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, TO REQUEST CONTINUED SUPPORT OF A NAVY HOMEPORT FACILITY IN AN ALASKAN COMMU TY WHEREAS, the Alaska State Legislature ha favoring the placement of a Navy homeport i and has considered providing funding for t of a homeport; and ed preliminary establishing a WHEREAS, the united States Navy has conduc studies of Alaskan communities for the purpose homeport for Navy vessels; and adopted resolutions an Alaskan community study and development WHEREAS, the United States Navy s determined that Seward, Alaska, and Kodiak, Alaska, provide t best strategic choices for the construction of a Navy homeport; and . WHEREAS, the construction and operation of a Navy homeport in either of these communities woul provide employment to Alaskans, a boost to the construction ndustry and provide continuing benefits to the selected cornrnu ty and the communities of the area connected by transportation routes in terms of provision of supplies, materials and co and WHEREAS, the interes of the United States Navy in this state should not be allowed to iminish due to lack of funding to provide follow-up in the inves gation stages of this project; and WHEREAS, the n environmental impac cost $750,000; an t step in this process appears to be an study of the two communities, estimated to WHEREAS, considers the to be an oppo t e City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, ssibility of a Navy homeport site in this community tunity worthy of research and endorsement; NOW, T EREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD ALASKA, that: Se tion 1. CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 90-014 Section 2. The City of Seward encourages the Legislature to appropriate funding of $750,000 toward the costs of an environmen- tal impact study to investigate Seward and Kodiak as a potential homeport site. Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 12th day of February, 1990.
