RESOLUTION 2000-017
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO HOLD A LEGISLA-
TIVE RECEPTION TO SUPPORT ALASKA VOCATIONAL TECHNICAL
CENTER FUNDING, ON MARCH 1, 2000 FOR AN AMOUNT NOT TO
EXCEED $5,000 AND APPROPRIATING $5,000 FROM THE GENERAL
FUND FUND BALANCE
WHEREAS, the Alaska Vocational Technical Center (A VTEC) has been an important
community asset in Seward since 1969; and
WHEREAS, during the last few years the State of Alaska's fiscal problems have caused
increasing concern regarding funding for A VTEC and the City's other legislative priorities and have
resulted in significant financial problems for A VTEC in the State's FY 2000 budget; and
WHEREAS, the number of vocational education facilities competing for State funding has
increased, and the University of Alaska has expanded its vocational education program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The Seward City Council authorizes the City Manager to hold a legislative
reception on March 1, 2000 to support A VTEC and other City of Seward legislative priority items,
for an amount not to exceed $5,000 and appropriating $5,000 from the General Fund fund balance,
account 101-0000-3050 to the Mayor/Council promotion account 101-1110-5730.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council ofthe City of Seward, Alaska, this 14 day
of February, 2000.
