RESOLUTION 2000-031
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A
CONTRACT WITH ALPINE DRILLING TO CONSTRUCT WATER WELL
NUMBER SIX FOR AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $111,635
WHEREAS, a request for bids to construct a new water well was properly advertised; and
WHEREAS, the increase in water used by the fish processors and cruise ships is increasing
each year, the current wells have a difficult time keeping the storage tanks full;
WHEREAS, the City is at risk of a serious water shortage during a major fire or when the
fish processors are in full operation if either Well Number Four or Well Number Five should fail;
WHEREAS, the CY2000 budget included $175,000 for this project. Alpine Drilling, the
lowest bidder, submitted a bid price of$101,487.
WHEREAS, a 10% contingency has been added to the contractor's bid price to cover the
cost of a larger pump, if the pump specified in the bid is not large enough to produce the desired
flow, increasing the contract price to $111,635.
WHEREAS, an additional 1 0% is also added to cover administrative fees, bringing the total
project cost to $122,799, which is within the budgeted amount for this project.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute a contract on behalf of the City
of Seward with Alpine Drilling for an amount not to exceed $111,635 for the construction of Well
Number Six.
Section 2. There is an additional 1 0% added to cover administrative fees, bringing the total
project cost to $122,799.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 28th
day of March, 2000.
