<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Sponsored by: Janke <br /> <br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />RESOLUTION 2000-032 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, <br />ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANGER TO EXECUTE A <br />CONTRACT WITH PENINSULA CONSTRUCTION TO CONSTRUCT <br />WELL EQUIPMENT FACILITY NUMBER SIX, FOR AN AMOUNT NOT <br />TO EXCEED $196,625 FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF WELL HOUSE <br />NUMBER SIX AND APPROPRIA TING $164,087 FROM THE <br />WATER/SEWER RETAINED EARNINGS ACCOUNT TO THE WELL <br />EQUIPMENT FACILITY NUMBER SIX CAPITAL PROJECT ACCOUNT <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a request for bids to construct a new water well house was properly advertised; <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the increase in water used by the fish processors and cruise ships is increasing <br />each year, the current wells have a difficult time keeping the storage tanks full; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City is at risk of a serious water shortage during a major fire or when the <br />fish processors are in full operation if either Well Number Four or Well Number Five should fail; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the CY2000 Budget included $175,000 for this project. The amount of <br />$122,799 will be used for the construction of the well, leaving a starting balance for the well <br />equipment facility of$52,201; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Peninsula Construction was the lowest bidder with a cost of $178,750; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a 10% contingency has been added to the contractor's bid price to cover the <br />cost of changes to pump controls, if the pump specified in the bid is not larger enough to produce the <br />desired flow, increasing the contract price to $196,625; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, an additional 10% has been added to cover administrative fees, bringing the <br />total project cost to $216,288. An additional $164,087 is needed to complete this project and will <br />be funded from the Water/Sewer Enterprise Fund Retained Earnings; and <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: <br /> <br />Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute a contract on behalf of the City <br />of Seward with Peninsula Construction for an amount not to exceed $196,625 for the construction <br />of Well Number Six Equipment Facility. . <br />
