HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes2000-032 I I I Sponsored by: Janke CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION 2000-032 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANGER TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT WITH PENINSULA CONSTRUCTION TO CONSTRUCT WELL EQUIPMENT FACILITY NUMBER SIX, FOR AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $196,625 FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF WELL HOUSE NUMBER SIX AND APPROPRIA TING $164,087 FROM THE WATER/SEWER RETAINED EARNINGS ACCOUNT TO THE WELL EQUIPMENT FACILITY NUMBER SIX CAPITAL PROJECT ACCOUNT WHEREAS, a request for bids to construct a new water well house was properly advertised; and WHEREAS, the increase in water used by the fish processors and cruise ships is increasing each year, the current wells have a difficult time keeping the storage tanks full; and WHEREAS, the City is at risk of a serious water shortage during a major fire or when the fish processors are in full operation if either Well Number Four or Well Number Five should fail; and WHEREAS, the CY2000 Budget included $175,000 for this project. The amount of $122,799 will be used for the construction of the well, leaving a starting balance for the well equipment facility of$52,201; and WHEREAS, Peninsula Construction was the lowest bidder with a cost of $178,750; and WHEREAS, a 10% contingency has been added to the contractor's bid price to cover the cost of changes to pump controls, if the pump specified in the bid is not larger enough to produce the desired flow, increasing the contract price to $196,625; and WHEREAS, an additional 10% has been added to cover administrative fees, bringing the total project cost to $216,288. An additional $164,087 is needed to complete this project and will be funded from the Water/Sewer Enterprise Fund Retained Earnings; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute a contract on behalf of the City of Seward with Peninsula Construction for an amount not to exceed $196,625 for the construction of Well Number Six Equipment Facility. . CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION 2000-032 Section 2. $164,087 will be appropriated from the Water/Sewer Retained Earnings, account 701-0-3071-0703 to the Well Number Six Control Facility, account 703-7032-5XXX.
