RESOLUTION 2000-034
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ISSUE A PURCHASE
ORDER IN THE AMOUNT OF $752,000 TO VALLEY DETROIT DIESEL
FOR A GM EMD USED MODEL 20-645F4B DIESEL ENGINE WITH A 2865
KW GENERATOR DELIVERED FOB SEWARD.
WHEREAS, the City of Seward issued a request for proposals for a standby generator unit
to be added to the existing five units which provide back-up power to the City in the event of an
interruption of the bulk power supply from Chugach Electric Association, and
WHEREAS, the City received proposals from five separate firms listing a total of eight
different units on February 15th, 2000; and
WHEREAS, the proposals were evaluated by City Staff and the Consulting Engineering firm
of Dryden and LaRue; and
WHEREAS, it was the unanimous opinion of the reviewers to select Valley Detroit Diesel,
Option Item 2, as the unit most closely meeting the City requirements for an additional standby
generation unit; and
WHEREAS, the selected unit is available FOB Seward for a price of $752,000; and
WHEREAS, funding for this generator is from a state grant of $1,088,000;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that
Section 1. The City Manager is authorized to issue a purchase order to Valley Detroit Diesel
in the amount of $752,000 to purchase an EMD 20-645F4B rated at 2865 KW delivered in Seward
to be paid for from a state grant, account 505-5050-XXXX.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 28th day
of March, 2000.
