CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 90-104
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, DESIGNATING AND REQUESTING
FUNDING FOR REPAIR OF THE LOWELL CREEK TUNNEL
WHEREAS, the Lowell Creek diversion tunnel is in need of
repair of damage and erosion caused by flooding in the Lowell Creek
area in 1989; and
WHEREAS, such repair is necessary to prevent further deterio-
ration of the tunnel which could lead to destructive flooding; and
WHEREAS, the Corps of Engineers has estimated the tunnel
repair project to be $660,304 with the local share determined to be
$361,304; and
WHEREAS, the City of Seward must rely on the State of Alaska
disaster fund to contribute the greater majority of the local share
leaving the City a financial obligation in the amount of $54,202 of
city funds;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City of Seward hereby requests the Governor of
the State of Alaska to authorize state disaster funds in the amount
of Three Hundred Seven Thousand, One Hundred Two Dollars ($307,102)
for the Lowell Creek tunnel repair project.
Section 2. Pending state contribution to this project, the
City shall transfer Fifty Four Thousand Two Hundred Two Dollars
($54,202) from the General Fund fund balance, account number 101-
3070, into a special account number 270-2700-4680-0400, "Lowell
Canyon Tunnel, 1990" for repair of the Lowell Creek tunnel.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward,
Alaska, this 10th day of September, 1990.
