HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1995-007 ~{l~~l~~o( ION PARTMENT'S CANNON FROM ST ACRES PARK CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION RESOLUTION NO. 95-07 A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD HISTORIC PRESERV COMMISSION, SUPPORTING THE PARKS AND RECREATION EFFORTS TO OBTAIN A DEMILITARIZED MEMORIAL LETTERKENNY, PENNSYLVANIA FOR PLACEMENT IN FO WHEREAS, the establishment of the Fort Raymond Townsite during World War II significantly impacted the co ~y Post outside the Original unity of Seward; and WHEREAS, when Fort Raymond was dismantle ill March, 1944, numerous structures were relocated and converted for other uses and many 0 these historic structures continue to exist today; and WHEREAS, the City of Seward has pI ed a memorial commemorating Fort Raymond in Forest Acres Park; and WHEREAS, the City of Seward quested and received a donation of a military display piece for the memorial at Forest Acre ark and the Parks and Recreation Department paid the initial fees to package and crate the annon; and WHEREAS, a demili rized Howitzer 155mm cannon gun has been reserved at Letterkenny, Chambersburg, ennsylvania awaiting our receipt; and WHEREAS, the ost of shipping the cannon to Seward, Alaska is out of reach for the City Parks and Recreation epartment's budget, and City staff has attempted to gain support for this project through poli 'cal offices requesting military shipping. NOW, HEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Historic Preservation Commission at: cti n 1. The Seward Historic Preservation Commission supports the Parks and Recre Ion Department's efforts to obtain a demilitarized cannon from Letterkenny, Pennsylvania acement in Forest Acres Park. Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
