HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1998-001 Sponsored by Staff CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION RESOLUTION NO. 98-01 A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION, RECOMMENDING THAT THE CITY COUNCIL ESTABLISH A SEWARD CENTENNIAL PLANNING COMMITTEE WHEREAS, on August 28, 1903, John Ballaine's landing party arrived on the shores of Resurrection Bay from the steamer SANTA ANA and began construction of the town of Seward; and WHEREAS, the year 2003 marking the one hundredth anniversary of the founding of Seward is less than five years away; and WHEREAS, Seward's centennial presents an opportunity for community celebrations and educational activities focused on the history of Seward; and WHEREAS, it will require a great deal of planning, promotion and local support to prepare for Seward's 2003 Centennial; and WHEREAS, it is not too soon to establish a committee of representatives from the community to begin planning for Seward's Centennial in 2003. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Historic Preservation Commission that: Section 1. It is hereby recommended that the City Council appoint an ad hoc Seward Centennial Committee to begin planning Seward's one hundredth anniversary. Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND APPROVED by the Seward Historic Preservation Commission this 18th day of February, 1998.
