RESOLUTION 2003-01
A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD HISTORIC PRESERVATION
COMMISSION, RECOMENDING THAT THE CITY COUCIL OF THE
CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, OFFICIALLY PROCLAIM THE NAME
"PAT WILLIAMS PARK" TO THE CITY PARK LOCATED AT 711
BALLAINE BOULEVARD; THE AREA WEST OF BALLAINE
BOULEVARD, BETWEEN MONROE STREET AND "B" STREET
COMMONL Y KNOWN AS "WILLIAMS PARK"
WHEREAS, sometime between 1996 and 1997, Pat Williams' single phone call stopped
the clear-cutting of Spruce trees in the little park which later became known as "Williams Park."
Without her voice, it is likely this wonderfully green area would be a flat, level, gray rock,
parking lot; and
WHEREAS, improvements have continued to 'spruce' up the park: gravel roadways,
tent sites, water service, landscaping, fire rings, individual camp sites, group camping areas, tent
pads, etc; and
WHEREAS, Pat Williams makes continued contributions to our community politically,
professionally and historically as she details the memories of her yester-years during the
celebration of Seward's Centennial; and
WHEREAS, Pat Williams has a valuable background, detailed social information and
important knowledge ofthe life behind the scenes of Seward's past; and
WHEREAS, Pat Williams is a valuable resource and always makes herself available for
historic research; and
WHEREAS, Pat Williams is currently one of the few living individuals to have met
President Harding during his July 1923 visit to Seward; and
WHEREAS, Pat Williams has served the City of Seward as a Planning and Zoning
Commissioner during the 1950's and 60's; and
WHEREAS, Pat Williams is the daughter of pioneer Alaskans Hazelarid L.V. Ray, her
father being a prominent attorney and president of the Alaska Territorial Senate; and

WHEREAS, a pioneer woman in the workplace; Pat Williams toiled with the acceptance
of running her own business, while also raising her two children; and
