HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1990-003 Sponsored by: Schaefermeyer CITY OF SEWARD PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION RESOLUTION NO. 90-003 A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION, RECOMMENDING APPROVAL OF ORDINANCE 639 AUTHORIZING AN AMENDMENT TO THE SEWARD ZONING CODE TABLE OF LAND USES 15.10.225 REGARDING PUBLIC DOCKS, MARINAS AND PASSENGER TERMINALS WHEREAS, the city and the Alaska Marine Highway System have been mutually working toward development of new ferry terminal and dock facilities in Seward; and WHEREAS, after a lengthy evaluation process, it appears that the only area remaining is Seward that is practical and meets all the design criteria is located along the waterfront east of an extension of B Street; and WHEREAS, the city is pursuing a southerly expansion of its small boat harbor which would integrate the proposed ferry dock and a cruise ship dock; and WHEREAS, the present land use and zoning for the proposed ferry dock, cruise ship dock and marina expansion is Park; and WHEREAS, because of federal funding regulations, the site of the proposed ferry dock is being recommended for change to Institutional; and WHEREAS, the present zoning code which does not list docks or passenger terminals as identified uses, but does allow marinas/harbors in certain zones needs revision to accommodate citizens' concerns in the Park and Institutional zones; and WHEREAS, an appropriate public hearing as required was conducted by the Commission on December 5, 1990. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SEWARD PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION of the City of Seward that: Section 1. Ordinance 639 amending the Seward Zoning Code Table of Land Uses Allowed 15.10.225 regarding public docks, marinas and passenger terminals is hereby recommended to the City Council of the City of Seward. Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION RESOLUTION NO. 90-003 PASSED AND APPROVED by the Seward Planning and Zoning Commission, this 5th day of December, 1990.
