HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1993-014 Sponsored by Staff CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION RESOLUTION NO. 93-14 A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION, GRANTING A SIGN VARIANCE TO THE SEWARD SENIOR CITIZENS FOR A SIGN ON THE ALLEY SIDE OF THE SENIOR/COMMUNITY CENTER/MUSEUM BUILDING WHEREAS, the Senior Citizens have requested permission to erect additional signs on the side and back of the Senior/Community Center/Museum Building to aid the visiting public to locate the senior center and museum from other than the front of the building; and WHEREAS, the City Code allows the Planning and Zoning Commission to grant a variance in harmony with the general purpose and intent of the code which includes: community aesthetics; commercial communication to the public; protection and enhancement of the historic charm, natural beauty, visual character and identity of the community; and flexibility for creative and innovative sign designs; and WHEREAS, the variance request is within the spirit of the code to provide directions and identify public buildings. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Planning and Zoning Commission that: Section 1. The City Clerk is authorized to issued a sign permit variance to the Seward Senior Citizens to erect a wall sign on the east/back wall of the Seward Senior/Community Center/Museum Building with said sign consisting of a backing board measuring no more than 17 feet by 3 feet, painted the same color as the building, and upon which raised cut out black letters, measuring no more than 2 feet in height, spelling out the words SENIOR CENTER, are attached. Section 2. A sign permit must be applied for through the city building official to ensure that the terms of the variance are followed and that the sign is erected in a safe manner. Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
