PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION
RESOLUTION 2002-05
RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD PLANNING AND ZONING
COMMISSION, RECOMMENDING THAT THE CITY COUNCIL SUPPORT
THE CONCEPT OF CONSTRUCTING A NORTH FIRE STATION ON
CITY-OWNED LOT lOA, FORT RAYMOND SUBDIVISION
WHEREAS, the Community Strategic Plan and Comprehensive Plan identified objectives for
public safety, transportation facilities and community appearance, and the completion of this station
will provide to the people of Seward an upgrade in emergency response; and
WHEREAS, the property is owned by the city and is zoned institutional which allows
emergency services as an outright use; and
WHEREAS, the station will allow for a more timely response to emergencies located in
existing as well as future expansion areas for the northern sections of the city; and
WHEREAS, due to the geographic location of the city and the potential for being physically
divided during certain natural disasters, development of this new station will provide for positioning
of resources in the area to better serve the community; and
WHEREAS, fire protection is crucial to meet demands of any future development to include
private, industrial and airport expansions. This location will help ensure continuance of current ISO
ratings for the citizens and businesses of Seward.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Planning and Zoning
Commission that:
Section 2. The Commission supports the concept of constructing a north fire station on city-
owned Lot lOA, Fort Raymond Subdivision.
Section 1. The Commission further recommends that the administration pursue funding for
the construction of the fire station.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the Seward Planning and Zoning Commission this 8th day of
January, 2002.
