HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes2000-064 I I I Sponsored by: Janke CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION 2000-064 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF LOTS 1,2, AND 3, BLOCK 10, ORIGINAL TOWNSITE OF SEWARD, FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF PUBLIC INFRASTRUCTURE, FOR THE PURCHASE PRICE OF $155,000. WHEREAS, there is a need to revitalize the downtown commercial district and to locate and improve the public services in the area; and WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends that the City Council approve the purchase of Lots 1,2, and 3, Block 10, Original Townsite of Seward, (located at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Adams Street); and WHEREAS, the City Manager supports developing this site as a bus stop with an enclosed waiting area, public restrooms, pay phones, tot lot, and a green space area; and WHEREAS, this proposal has been discussed with the Downtown Business Association and they support the concept; and WHEREAS, in accordance with Seward City Code 97.05.120, the City Manager has negotiated the purchase of the lots located at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Adams Street with the landowner, Mary Williams, for a purchase price of$155,000 plus closing costs for an amount not to exceed $1,200; and WHEREAS, a public hearing meeting the requirements of Seward City Code 97.05.125 was held on June 26, 2000: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: Section 1. The City Manager is authorized to finalize the purchase and accept a Warranty Deed for Lots 1,2, and 3, Block 10 Original Townsite, of Seward for the purchase price of$155,000. Section 2. In accordance with Seward City Code 97.05.135, the City Council finds that the essential terms and conditions ofthis land purchase, $155,000 cash plus closing costs for an amount not to exceed $1,200, and the method of acquisition, by negotiation as authorized in Seward City Code 97.05.120, is in the public interest. CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION 2000-064 Section 3. Funding to purchase the lots will be provided by appropriating $156,200 from the Land Acquisition Fund fund balance 103-0000-3050 to the Land Acquisition Fund 103-1031- 5910. Section 4. This resolution shall take effect 30 days after passage and posting, as required by Seward City Code 97.05.145.
