CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 89-063
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF
DECORATIVE SIGNS AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS
WHEREAS, lack of adequate signage along the Seward Highway
coming into town has been a concern of the Council for some time:
and
WHEREAS, an Ad Hoc Committee of the Council (represented by
Councilmembers Dunham and Noll), the administration, and the
business community has requested that a local design artist,
Demetria MCCullough, design three signs to be located along the
Highway; and
WHEREAS, professional services contracts are exempt from the
bid procedures set forth in the Seward City Code; and
WHEREAS, Ms. McCullough has submitted a proposal to design and
construct the three signs for the sum of Nine Thousand Dollars
($9,000); and
WHEREAS, the administration estimates that it will cost the
city approximately $3,000 to erect the signs; and
WHEREAS, funds are not available in the FY 1989 budget to
cover the cost of purchasing and erecting the signs;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The sum of $12,000 is hereby appropriated from the
General Fund-Fund Balance to Capital Project Account No. 143-
111-511-10-39, for the purpose of purchasing and erecting three
decorative signs along the Seward Highway.
Section 2. The City Manager is authorized to issue a purchase
order not to exceed $9,000 to Demetria McCullough for the design
and construction of the tree signs referenced above.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward,
Alaska, this 12th day of June, 1989.
