RESOLUTIOll NO. 83 5
A RESOLUTION APPROPRIATING SALES TAX
RECEIPTS TO SEWARD GENERAL HOSPITAL
WHEREAS, the Seward City Council enacted Ordinance No. 507 on
March 8, 1982, adopting a one percent sales tax, and
HHEREAS, a referendum vote on Ordinance No. 507 was held on
April 20, 1982, and
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 507 was approved by a majority of the
qualified voters voting on the question, and
WHEREAS, revenues from the sales tax are now available as a part
of the City's general revenues to assist Seward General Hospital, and
WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees of Seward General Hospital have
requested the Seward City Council to grant to the Hospital $50,000 of
sales tax revenues, and
WHEREAS, this grant will be used to defray operational deficits
accumulated in the first six months of FY 1983, and
WHEREAS, these operational deficits consist of unpaid accounts
payable and unbudgeted equipment purchases to replace unexpected equipment
failure, and
HHEREAS, a salary survey conducted in July 1982 determined that
wages paid by Seward General Hospital were 15% below the state average
in the lower pay grades and 5% below the supervisory grades, and
WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees increased the Seward General Hospital
wage scale by the foregoing percentages effective January 10, 1983, and
WHEREAS, the cost of the wage increases for the last six months of
FY 1984 is projected to be $52,465, and
WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees have commited to coordinate the
FY 1984 Hospital funding needs with the City's budgeting process, and
WHEREAS, this budgeting process will allow the City and Seward
General Hospital the opportunity to examine in detail the Hospital's
requirements for FY 1984.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The sum of $50,000 is hereby appropriated from the
Sales Lax Revenue Account No. 101-000-318-10-00 to the General Government
Service Account No. 101-118-518-35-61 for the purpose of assisting Seward
General Hospital.

Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon
adoption.
