CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 84-9
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, FINDING IT IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST TO
NEGOTIATE A LAND TRADE WITH MR. DONALD L. SNELLMAN FOR
PROPERTY IN THE TERMINAL ADDITION (PROPOSED GATEWAY SUB-
DIVISION) FOR CITY OWNED LOT 4, JESSE LEE HEIGHTS SUBDIVISION
ADDITION NO. 2
WHEREAS, for the past few years the City of Seward has been
engaged in the development of the Gateway Subdivision (a part of the
Terminal Addition); and
WHEREAS, there are two other land owners within the Terminal
Addition other than the City of Seward; and
WHEREAS, one land owner has agreed to sell his property to the
City; and
WHEREAS, the final development of the proposed subdivision
would be greatly simplified if it were in a single ownership; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Donald L. Snellman is the owner of Lots 22-24,
Block 1; Lot 1-7, Block 8; and Lots 1-7 and 34-40, Block 9, Terminal
Addition, and said lots total approximately 72,000 square feet; and
WHEREAS, the City of Seward is the owner of Lot 4, Jesse Lee
Heights Subdivision Addition No.2, which totals approximately 71,569
square feet; and
WHEREAS, the value of having the proposed Gateway Subdivision
in a single ownership outweighs the price difference between the two
affected parcels, the public interest would not be served by expending
funds to have properties appraised; and
WHEREAS, having Lot 4, Jesse Lee Heights Subdivision Addition
No.2, in private ownership whereby it will be on the tax rolls and
developed at an early date would be beneficial to the residents of the
City;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Council finds it in the public interest
to negotiate an across the board land exchange with Mr. Snellman for his
property in the Terminal Addition (Lots 22-24, Block 1; Lots 10-7, Block
8; and Lots 1-7 and 34-40, Block 9) for City-owned Lot 4, Jesse Lee
Heights Subdivision Addition No.2.
