CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 84-41
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, OFFICIALLY DESIGNATING THE ROUTE OF THE
IDITAROD NATIONAL HISTORIC TRAIL THROUGH THE CITY OF SEWARD
WHEREAS, the Iditarod Trail has acquired National Historic
Trail status; and
WHEREAS, Seward is the historical origin of the Iditarod
Trail; and
WHEREAS, the City of Seward supports the concept of the
Iditarod Trail as a National Historic Trail; and
WHEREAS, the first official chapter of the Iditarod Trail-
blazers, a nonprofit group formed to support and maintain the trail, was
formed in Seward;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The route of the Iditarod Trail through Seward is
officially designated as beginning at the Founder's Monument at the
corner of Ballaine and Railway Avenues; thence north through the Green-
belt along the waterfront to Fourth Avenue; thence north along same to
Old Airport Road; thence west along same to the Seward Highway; thence
north along same to the corporate city limits at the middle bridge over
Resurrection River; and more specifically described on the map attached
as Exhibit "A" and incorporated herein by reference.
Sect ion 2. The Kenai Peninsula Borough is urged to further
extend this designation to continue north on the Seward Highway to its
intersection with Nash Road; thence along same for approximately 3 miles
to the intersection with Sawmill Creek. At this point, the Trail will
extend northward through State and National Forest lands before exiting
from the Kenai Peninsula Borough.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its adoption.
